The Bar, set aside for our exclusive use was a luxe location for our arts, business and newest members to meet and share ideas for new possibilities around the precinct.  The total membership was well represented in the 30 who attended, some for the first time.  Many new connections were made and a number of artistic collaborations have resulted.  

The sublime canapé selection included soft shell crab tapas-style, panko tiger prawns with sweet chill, Jamon Iberico La Barrica Decebo cheese selection and decadent Macarons while consistent supporters of Walsh Bay venues and events, Hand Picked Wines provided a delicious preview of their latest releases from their vast selection of wine styles and varietals.

Dance and theatre are two extra curricula activities that top many a child’s wish list. So if you’re in the market to score a few brownie points with junior members of your family over the upcoming holiday period, Sydney Dance Company and the Australian Theatre for Young People (ATYP) are running a number of workshops in April pitched directly at school-aged children.

Sydney Dance Company is running a series of two-day workshops for 8 to 18 year olds from Tuesday 12 to Friday 22 April. Taught by some of the best and most experienced professional dancers in the country, the workshops are offered in a number of dance styles including Jazz, JFH (combining Jazz, Funk and Hip Hop), Hip Hop, Contemporary and Lyrical. At a cost of $165 per participant, the workshops promise to be fun, dynamic and hugely rewarding. The Company is also running a one-day intensive program on Monday 11 and Monday 18 April to give experienced dancers an insight into what to expect from its year-long Pre-Professional course. As part of the official line up for the Sydney Morning Herald’s 2016 Spectrum Now Festival, Walsh Bay Arts and Commerce are for the second time, holding Deckchair Arts – this year on Sunday, March 13.

The event is a unique Walsh Bay celebration of sight, sound and tastes that will feature collaborations from a range of talented performers including 11-piece horn and drum street band, Hot Potato, Indigenous dancer Kaleb Taylor, Australia’s best jugglers, comedian Benny B along with Sarah Louis-Jean on the boleadoras and drums.
